TECHNOLOGY

Respond to that idea. What do you think about it? Do you think that teachers could be more effective if they used technology tools (think pod casts, web videos, online discussion forums, electronic assignment submission, tech-related project assignments)? Are modern students technologically inclined? What about being a student in Utah? Do you think that being in Utah keeps you a little behind-the-times as far as technology learning is concerned? Would YOU do better if more multi-media was used in your classrooms to teach and present, and for you to demonstrate your learning and communicate?

I think that we could use more technology, maybe not as much as New York, but we could use more. Technology can help in a lot of ways, more then we could do on paper. It has a lot more information then even the teachers sometimes so it could help us learn more stuff. We still do a ton of stuff on the computer, we do PowerPoint's, research papers and all that stuff. So were all not totally technologically inclined.

I think that being a student in Utah is keeping us a little inclined from technology. Like you said New York has tons of stuff and I know of tons of schools that has laptops in each classroom for students to use. I think I might do better if we had computers and stuff like that in each classroom because whatever information the teacher is looking at we could follow along, and for me it helps. I think it would help demonstrate certain things better. Also if we have a lot of technology it will help us in the job field because we know a lot about computers.

TEACHERS

Since we're reading Nothing But The Truth, which involves a boy who doesn't get along with a teacher, I want you to consider teacher-student relationships you've had in the past. Have you had teachers that you just got along with whether or not you did well in their class? Have you had teachers whose personality just didn't mesh with yours? Without naming names, expound upon these ideas and thoughtfully consider how personality differences or similarities have affected you in your classes.

I guess that some people say that all teachers just suck, and that they are so rude. But some teachers are not like that. If you really think about it a teacher is just like a older best friend, they just teach you how to do stuff. I had this teacher in 6 grade and she was the best. We talked about everything and she was just the nicest lady I have ever met. It really made a difference in her class. Well the learning part. It helped me actually pay attention and listen to what she is saying, but to a teacher that I don't like I most of the time just put them off.

I think even when kids do bad in someones class with a teacher that likes them is fine. Kids who like there teachers usually try hard to do all of the stuff in there class. I did have a teacher in my kindergarten class that always got mad at me for wearing jewelry and our personalities just meshed so bad, and I always got in trouble for it. So I know for a fact that if you like a teacher and you get along with them you will like there class or at least just have a good relationship with the teacher.

HONESTY AND KINDNESS

How important is honesty to you? Is it more important than kindness? Share a story of a time you or someone you know was not honest and it caused problems or was 'too honest' and it caused problems.

Honesty I think is very important. When people find out that you lie it causes a lot of problems and fights. Although kindness is very important I think that I would rather someone be honest to me. You can be both honest and kind. Kindness is like honesty though, when you are honest to somebody they are being kind.

With being too honest could be bad too. If you wanted somebody to tell you the truth and they did but they went way to far with it, that could be bad and cause problems. Both of them are important but you got to be careful on how you say it. I know people who are very honest and blunt to you and it caused a lot of problems with the person being said to. It made them really sad and mad at them. The way they say it is the way it comes off rude, or nice.

THE WORLD IS ENDING!

What item of food do you grab?Describe what the food is, how long you'll wait to eat it, what it will feel like to know you're eating it for the last time. Will you share with your family? Will you hide it away until there's nothing else left? Will you eat it a little at a time or gobble it all at once? Describe every aspect of enjoying this last savory morsel of food.

I would grab a huge bag of special K cereal. I would grab that food item because cereal last for a long time and special K is good for you. It has strawberries in it (well the kind that I eat). I could probably wait a couple of days before I start to eat it. Just go as long as I could before I feel like I'm going to die. Then I will rip open that bag and eat and eat. Not to much though cause I have to save. You got to eat in proportions!

I will share with my family as long as they share all there food with me. I will eat a lot first so I'm not hungry. Then start going little by little. It sounds very hard to only have a little bit of food when everybody is dieing of starvation and not having anything. Maybe my mind would change if I really was in that situation. It's a hard choice.

SUPERPOWER!

Imagine that you have a superpower. The Power of Persuasion. You can convince anyone of anything. How would you use that power? What would you try to get, do, change? Would you use it for good? Or evil? Describe what the Power of Persuasion is.

If I had the Power of Persuasion and I could convince anyone of anything I would use the power to make teachers do my homework for me. They say they know what its like to have homework cause they were once a child. But no, teachers don't know. I would make the teachers either change them giving out homework or have the teachers do every single one of their students homework.

I do not know if I would use it for good of for evil... I'm thinking evil and I could think of plenty of evil things to persuade people to do. But the better one to do is good persuasion. I think that the Power of Persuasion is telling people to do something by giving them all these great examples that make people think, "oh that sounds awesome!" The Power of Persuasion sounds like a great power to have.

GOOD BOOK

Write a review of the last good book you've read. You should include:1 paragraph summary- what's the story about?1 paragraph review- what did you like about the book? What could have been better?Your review: how many stars would you give it?

The last book I read was called Speak. It was about this girl who was basically just an outsider who hated everything. She used to have all these friends and then over the summer everyone wasn't her friend anymore and they all changed. The book pursued her to be very whiny, and I was annoyed half of the time. Every little thing in the book was just her complaining basically.

The book could have been a lot better if the other didn't make her seem so self centered and whiny. Maybe the author wasn't trying to perceive her like that, but to me that's what it seemed like. I didn't really like the book, maybe someone else would. If I had to give her a rating on the book I would maybe give it stars. But that's just me.

CHARACTER

Pick three letters from the alphabet. For example, A, J, and L. Then, for each letter, pick a name, a location, and a job. This is your new character. Write a couple paragraphs about them.

My letters are: H, E, R

Harry works for the gum factory called Extra in Reno La's Vegas! Harry started working there when he was about 6 years old. He loves it. He walks to work by himself, takes the bus here and there and never looks at the people on the streets. His dad used to own the Extra factory but then he got fired for eating to much gum all the time. So now Harry works there during the day from about 8 to 9 but he secretly goes there... all night.. The factory employers have been on the hunt for the mystery person who has been eating all the gum. Yet they do not realize that Harry could be doing it! Especially when his dad got fired from there.

Even though Harry works there alot of the day and goes there at night time. He still does stuff for fun. Harry went on his tricycle to pick up all of his little friends to go to the gum factory. Poor little Harry just never can get away from that factory. Harry also went to the dentist, when the dentist told harry to open his mouth the dentist screamed! there was gum stuck to his teeth! Harry wasn't even chewing gum! The dentist diagnosed him with extreme extra gum disease. The rest of the days all Harry does it go to work and chew gum.

ULTIMATE WINTER BREAK

Describe your ideal Winter Break. Where would you go? What would you do? Money is not an obstacle. If you could do anything you wanted, what would that be?

If I could do anything that I wanted on a 2 week break I would first go to New York. I would go shopping and go look at the the stuff there. But I would really want to go to a Broadway or a musical there. New York has some of the best ones. It would be soo fun to take a couple of my friends (along with my parents) and go to New York with them! That would be such a fun winter break! Since money would not be an option I could go anywhere I wanted and see everything. And shop every where!

I think that traveling somewhere far and just not knowing where your going or what your going to do would be awesome. just take a road trip and have no directions! just go wherever you feel like going. You could go to the ocean or just everything! You could see so much stuff and do so much stuff! I think that going to New York or going on a road trip that you have no clue where you are going would be the funnest break ever....well for me at least!!!!
